Elena was born in the occupied city of Famagusta, one of the “ghost” cities of the world. She worked in the US and Cyprus as a film director, producer, cinematographer and editor in television and with production companies. Being an activist for youth advocacy, Elena’s work is dedicated to social changing documentaries and projects, often teaming up with individuals and organizations to press for changes in legislation, policy and government practices.
Elena is the President of the Directors Guild of Cyprus, a member of the Cyprus Cinema Advisory Committee, a committee member of the Cyprus Advertising Regulation Organization, a member of European Documentary Network and European Women’s Audiovisual Network and has been an International EMMY Awards Juror in the semi-final categories of documentary and news.
Η Έλενα γεννήθηκε στην κατεχόμενη Αμμόχωστο, μια από τις πόλεις «φαντάσματα» στον κόσμο. Εργάστηκε στις Η.Π.Α. και Κύπρο ως σκηνοθέτης, παραγωγός, κινηματογραφίστρια και μοντέρ στην τηλεόραση και σε ανεξάρτητα στούντιο παραγωγής. Ως ακτιβίστρια και συνήγορος της νεολαίας, το έργο της εστιάζεται κυρίως σε κοινωνικά ντοκιμαντέρ και δράσεις, ενώ συχνά συνεργάζεται με άτομα και οργανισμούς για την πίεση αλλαγών σε νομοθεσίες, χάραξη πολιτικής και κυβερνητικές πρακτικές.
Η Έλενα είναι πρόεδρος της Ένωσης Σκηνοθετών Κύπρου, μέλος της Συμβουλευτικής Επιτροπής Κινηματογράφου Κύπρου, μέλος της πρωτοβάθμιας επιτροπής του Φορέα Ελέγχου Διαφήμισης Κύπρου, μέλος του European Documentary Network και του European Women’s Audiovisual Network και διετέλεσε Κριτής Διεθνών Βραβείων ΕΜΜΥ στις κατηγορίες Ντοκιμαντέρ και Νέα.
